LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego Athletics Department announced its fifth annual All-Academic Team for the 2012-13 year on Monday, recognizing the top student on each qualifying team for their performance in the classroom.
A total of 20 Tritons have been named to this year's squad. Each student-athlete possesses the highest GPA on his or hers respective team.
To qualify for the award, the student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and have been enrolled at UCSD full-time for at least four quarters. The student-athlete must also have been a member of the team for the entire previous season.
"We take pride in recognizing our student-athletes for their commitment to success in the classroom as well as their athletic accomplishments," UCSD Director of Athletics Earl W. Edwards said. "That balance between excelling both academically and athletically is really what we're all about."
Members of the UC San Diego Athletics All-Academic Team receive a $500 scholarship towards tuition and expenses.
