CARSON, Calif. - For the second straight day, the UC San Diego softball team split a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader at Cal State Dominguez Hills, winning the first game, 4-0, before falling, 8-0, in the series finalé Saturday.

UCSD is now 17-13 overall and 13-8 in CCAA play, while CSUDH is 17-9 and 9-7.

In the opener, Triton starting pitcher Alexis Edwards (2-2) gave up just one hit in a complete game effort.

Kirsten Willmon led UCSD at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run and a pair of RBI. Nicole Spangler was also 2-for-3 with a run scored.

The Tritons scored two runs in the sixth inning and another two in the seventh.

Back-to-back singles by Willmon and Mckenna Clewett got things going for UCSD in the sixth. Callie Grant's sac bunt pushed both runners up a base. Emily McQuaid's bunt drove in the game's first run while Caitlin Brown's ground out was enough to score Clewett, putting the Tritons up 2-0.

Edwards' no hitter bid ended in the bottom of the sixth when Jamie Duran led off with a single to center field.

Singles by Spangler and Taylor Sepulveda in the seventh set the table for Willmon, who smacked a two-run double to put UCSD up 4-0.

Edwards closed out the game by retiring the side in order in the bottom half of the seventh.

Adriana Sanchez was the story for the Toros in the second game of the day. The center fielder cranked two home runs, including a grand slam to right-center in the fifth inning. Her other round-tripper was a leadoff solo shot in the third.

Cal State Dominguez Hills tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to earn the run rule victory. Catherine Brown had two RBI in the frame.

Jennifer Manuel (5-1) started in the circle for UCSD and gave up three runs on five hits over 3.1 innings.

Brown and Katie Saunders each had two hits for the Tritons.

For CSUDH, Stephanie Jimenez (10-1) earned her 10th win of the season, giving up seven hits over five innings of work.

Jessica Hall was 3-for-3 for the Toros.

The Tritons take a week off from competition before returning to Triton Softball Field to host CCAA opponent San Francisco State in a four-game set March 29-30. It will be the final home series of the season for UCSD.
