The Aztecs are coming off two straight weekends at home, hosting the Aztec Invite March 16-17 and the Aztec Mini this past weekend, March 22-23. SDSU went undefeated at 6-0 over the course of the two weeks. Key wins over No. 11 Indiana, No. 12 Princeton and No. 9 Long Beach State highlighted for the 18-7 Aztecs. Amber Pezzolla has a team high 47 goals, while Anique Hermann leads the team in assists, 27, and steals with 49. Rachel Mitchell has earned the majority of playing time in cage as she’s tallied 250 saves so far this season, averaging 8.09 goals against per game.

The back-to-back national champions are cruising along, likely to make an appearance in the championship match again this season. The Cardinals are currently 18-1 on the year and on a six game win streak. Stanford’s single loss of the season came Feb. 24 in a 13-10 decision in favor of No. 1 USC.

Hawaii currently holds a 11-7 overall record. The Rainbow Wahine most recently dropped a 7-15 decision to USC on Saturday, Mar. 23. Prior to the home loss, HU went 2-1 at the Aztec Invitational posting victories over Bucknell and Princeton after opening tournament play with a 8-6 loss to Indiana.

The Guachos, currently 16-8, will enter the tournament after suffering a tough 10-7 loss to No. 20 Pacific in Santa Barbara. The Tritons and Guachos met earlier this season at the Triton Invite in the opening match of day two. The Guachos came away with the 12-11 sudden death overtime win on top of the Tritons. Jessie Porter scored three goals during overtime for UCSB, leading them to victory. Porter leads the team with 42 goals scored this year. Bryn Hudson and Samantha Murphy lead the team in assist, with 33 respecitvely. Ruth Milne has made 14 starting appearances in goal for the Guachos, knocking down 96 saves while giving up a 8.0 average in goals against.

UCSD enters the week riding a eight-game win streak, and still undefeated in the WWPA, as they sit at 14-8 on the season. The eight-game run is the longest of head coach Brad Kreutzkamp's tenure, currently in his fourth season. The Tritons have come away with perfect 4-0 records in their past two weekends of play, taking part in the Claremont Convergence Mar. 8-9 and most recently the Aztec Invitational Mar. 16-17. Three of the eight victories came over fellow nationally ranked opponents, No. 13 Cal State Northridge, No. 16 UC Davis and No. 11 Indiana.

The Tritons have had a steady incline this season when it comes to the CWPA National rankings. The Tritons began the season sitting at the 19 spot and have gradually moved up the list. After a tough weekend at the Triton Invitational Feb. 9-10 the Tritons moved up to No. 17 and stayed there until Mar. 20 when they received another boost landing on No. 15 among Division I opponents. This week’s National rankings will be posted Wednesday, Mar. 27.

Freshman goalie Courtney Miller has made an immediate impact as a member of the Triton squad, producing big numbers week to week. Miller has come away with 10 or more stops in 11 of the Tritons’ 22 games. The Honolulu native most recently added 38 saves at the Aztec Invitational, bringing her season total to 190. She leads the WWPA and is on track to break into the programs Single-Season top 10.

Jolene Guiliana leads the team in both assists and steals, at 35 and 38 respectively. These marks also rank her in the top three among the leading WWPA performers as she leads the conference in the assists category. Guiliana is dishing out on a record breaking pace, as the single-season assists record currently stands at 60, a record set back in 2003 by Danielle Boyle.

Both Sarah Lizotte and Alexis Wieseler have shown hot shooting this season as they both sit as leading scorers for the Tritons. The hard work has payed off, as they have each received the UC San Diego Player of the Week award as well as KAP7 WWPA Player of the Week honors. Lizotte earned her second conference honor on Wednesday, Mar. 13 as she was named Co-Player of the Week for her play over the weekend in Claremont. Lizzote previously earned the WWPA weekly award on Jan. 30 after the Tritons went 3-1 at the UC Santa Barbara Winter Invite to open the 2013 campaign. Wieseler received hers on Mar. 7 after leading UCSD with seven goals in the exciting victory over Loyola Marymount.

UCSD has played 16 of its 22 games on the road this season, and shown relative success going 12-4 at both away and neutral locations. The Tritons will play at Canyonview Pool again on April 11 hosting Long Beach State and will complete their home schedule on April 19 hosting WWPA opponent Cal State San Bernardino.
