LA JOLLA, Calif. - With most of the team waiting until Saturday to compete, three women of the UC San Diego track and field team competed in two of the three throwing events during the second day of the Triton Invitational on Friday at Triton Track & Field Stadium.

Senior Uchenna Agbahiwe highlighted the day with her personal-best performance in the women’s discus throw open event to earn an NCAA Division II provisional qualifier mark. The Bellflower native threw 146’7” to finish seventh place overall in the competitive field and move up two slots to eighth on UCSD’s all-time top 10 list for that event. Agbahiwe’s provisional mark is the 10th such mark acquired by the Triton women this season.

Not far behind Agbahiwe with a throw of 133’0” was junior Eva Isaacs, who also did well with her 13th-place showing.

In the women’s hammer throw invitational event, freshman Valerie Francis held her own among the high-caliber slate of throwers. Francis finished 29th overall with a mark of 141’8”.

Though no Tritons were competing, Friday also featured the women’s discus throw invitational event. Aretha Thurmond of Nike won the competition with her top mark of 202’3”, beating former San Diego State standout Whitney Ashley (200’7”).

Freshman Breana Jemison of UC Riverside set the standard in the women’s discus throw open, winning with a throw of 160’4”.

Jeneva McCall of New York Athletic Club (NYAC) threw the furthest in the women’s hammer throw invitational (236’8”).

The remaining Tritons will compete in the third and final day of the Triton Invitational on Saturday, beginning with the men’s hammer throw invitational event at 10 a.m.
