LA JOLLA, Calif. - Caitlin Brenton posted career-highs with 27 kills and 33 points to help lead the 12th-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team to a five-set victory over Cal Poly Pomona Saturday night at RIMAC Arena.

Scores of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) match were 25-14, 17-25, 23-25, 25-15 and 15-10. With its sixth straight win, UCSD improved to 22-3 overall and 14-3 in the CCAA. CPP, which has lost its last three matches, dropped to 10-16 and 8-10.

Brenton hit .469 with just four errors in 49 attacks. The junior opposite was solid all around, collecting three assists, two aces, 14 digs and six blocks (two solos). Brenton's kill and point totals were the highest posted by any Triton this season. Her 14 digs were also a career-best.

Middle blocker Sara McCutchan, who tied a NCAA Division II record with a 1.000 (11-0-11) hitting percentage Friday, finished with 17 kills and five blocks (two solos) for 20.5 points. Libero Brittany Lombardi led all players with 33 digs, a season-high for UCSD. The senior recorded her 1,000th career dig Friday night. Setter Heidi Sierks posted a double-double with 56 assists and 16 digs.

Alexa Hasen had 17 kills for the Broncos, while Brianna Thierjung posted 10 kills, 11 digs and four block assists. Zoe Herrera had 30 digs.

UCSD held a 106 to 89 advantage in digs and out-hit Cal Poly Pomona .259 (70-21-189) to .144 (55-27-194).

Leading by just one at 10-9 in the fifth set, UCSD scored three consecutive points on kills by Brenton and McCutchan and a hitting error by the Broncos. Following a Hasen kill, Brenton slammed the door shut with back-to-back kills to give the Tritons the victory.

The contest ended a seven-match home stand for the Tritons, who return to the road to play at Cal State Monterey Bay on Nov. 15 and Cal State East Bay on Nov. 16.
