LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego Athletics Department held its annual blood drive Wednesday and the event proved to be a huge success once again as a total of 147 individuals came out to RIMAC Arena to donate.
The event, now in its 14th year, welcomed Triton student-athletes, administrators and coaches, in addition to members of the UCSD community. The men's and women's rowing, men's and women's soccer and baseball teams provided the best donor representation at the event.
The department's blood drive is coordinated with the Triton Athletes' Council (TAC) and organized in conjunction with the American Red Cross.
“Year-in and year-out, this is one of, if not the most successful blood drives on the UCSD campus and it’s an event that’s primarily driven by student-athlete donors through our Triton Athletes’ Council," said UCSD Senior Associate Athletics Director Ken Grosse. "Our student-athletes are involved with a number of community service projects throughout the year and it’s gratifying to see how committed they are to giving to causes like the American Red Cross.”
