Sluggish Second Half Leads to 78-58 Loss for Tritons
Release: Friday 01/10/2014

LA JOLLA, Calif. - A sluggish second half by the UC San Diego women's basketball team led to a 78-58 loss against league opponent Cal State East Bay Friday night at RIMAC Arena.

UCSD dropped to 7-4 overall and 4-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), while CSUEB improved to 9-5 and 6-1.

The Tritons made 50 percent (13-26) of their shots in the opening half and found themselves down by just two points, 39-37, at the break, despite the Pioneers shooting a stellar 61 percent (17-28). The second half was a different story as UCSD shot just 30 percent (7-23). East Bay also dropped, but still hit at a 52 percent (13-25) clip.

Miranda Seto led the Tritons with 19 points. The guard was 6-for-8 from the field with three three-pointers. She also made four of six free throws and added four rebounds, a game-high five assists and three steals. McKennan Bertsch led all players with seven rebounds and Stephanie Yano finished with four assists.

The Pioneers got a game-high 27 points from Brianna Terrance, who made 12 of 17 shots. Stephanie Lopez added 21 points and was the team's top rebounder with six, while Danielle Peacon had 14 points.

A three-pointer by Seto at the 13:59 mark of the first half gave UCSD a nine-point lead at 20-11, its largest advantage of the night.

UCSD's Erin Dautremont hit a layup to open the second half and tie the score at 39-39, but a layup by Micah Walker on the next possession put the Pioneers back up and they would not trail again.

UCSD hosts CCAA opponent Cal State Monterey Bay Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The Otters (3-7, 0-7) remained winless in the league after suffering a 47-46 loss at Cal State San Bernardino Friday night.
