SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – UC San Diego fell victim to San Francisco State and Nefi Perdomo Saturday night, as the California Collegiate Athletic Association’s (CCAA) leading scorer poured in 29 points to down the Tritons 82-68 at the Swamp.

UCSD was led by 15 points from Drew Dyer and 14 points and eight assists from James McCann (Carlsbad/La Costa Canyon) in the loss. As a team, the Tritons drained 12 three-pointers and finished .429 from the field on 24-of-56 shooting despite dropping their second-consecutive league affair.

Both teams shot the ball well on the night, as SFSU finished with a .490 mark from the floor after making 25-of-51 attempts.

The difference in the game proved to be free-throw shooting, as the Gators nailed 25-of-28 shots from the charity stripe. UCSD only shot 10 free-throws on the night, making eight.

The Gators led from start-to-finish and opened the game with seven straight points to set the tone. SFSU led by as many as 16 in the first period and grabbed a 42-29 advantage at the intermission.

UCSD came out in the second half strong and eventually cut the deficit to three with 7:21 remaining after a three-pointer from McCann. The Tritons couldn’t come any closer, however, as the Gators finished out the 82-68 win with strong shooting from the free-throw line.

Adam Klie (13), Aleks Lipovic (12) and MacKenzie McCullough (10) also finished the night in double-digits in scoring for UCSD. McCullough pulled down a team-high seven rebounds as well.

For the second-consecutive night, the Tritons were out-rebounded 38-25 as a team. The Gators capitalized on the rebounding battle by outscoring UCSD 13-0 on second-chance points.

SFSU was led by Perdomo’s 19 points, who finished nine-of-15 from the floor with five three-pointers. Udun Osakue also poured in 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Gators.

The loss drops UCSD to 7-7 overall and 3-7 in CCAA play, while the win propels SFSU to 8-5 overall and 6-4 in conference.

UCSD returns to RIMAC Arena next week for a pair of CCAA contests. On Friday, Jan. 31, the Tritons face Cal State Dominguez Hills at 7:30 p.m. The following night on Saturday, Feb. 1, UCSD squares off with Cal State L.A. with tipoff slated for 7:30 p.m.
