TURLOCK, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's basketball team won its third straight game Saturday night, taking down league opponent Cal State Stanislaus, 67-65, at Fitzpatrick Arena.

UCSD is now 12-8 on the season and 8-8 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). CSUS is 13-7 overall and 9-7 in conference play. The Tritons have won five of their last six games.

"We played with great energy, effort and toughness," said UCSD head coach Eric Olen. "We beat a very good team on the road tonight. We played solid basketball all weekend and we held on to get a tough, hard-fought win tonight."

The Tritons led by as many as 13 points in the first half when James McCann sunk two free throws to make the score 48-35 with 16:56 remaining.

The Warriors began to slowly get back in it and were within two points twice in the final 2:47. A layup by Chris Read with 10 seconds left in the game made the score 67-65 in favor of UCSD. CSUS had a chance as the Tritons turned the ball over, but the Warriors gave it right back and time ran out.

UCSD had four players finish with 10 or more points, including McCann (16), Drew Dyer (14), Adam Klie (12) and Aleks Lipovic (12). For the third consecutive game, Lipovic drilled four three-pointers. McCann had six assists and Dyer collected a team-best eight rebounds.

Two Warriors recorded double-doubles as Marcus Bell had 24 points and 12 rebounds and Read had 16 points and 10 boards.

CSUS out-rebounded UCSD, 38-29. The Tritons made nine shots from behind the arc and 12 of 15 free throws. The Warriors made just 13 of 20 from the charity stripe.

A three-pointer by Sam Marcus at the 5:17 mark of the first half gave Cal State Stanislaus its only lead of the night, 28-27. UCSD led 39-32 at the break.

The Tritons remain on the road to play at Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday, Feb. 14 (7 p.m.) and at Cal State East Bay on Saturday, Feb. 15 (7:30 p.m.).
