LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego women’s basketball team picked up an important win Friday night at RIMAC Arena over San Francisco State, 74-69, behind a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds from Erin Dautremont.
The Tritons now hold the fifth spot in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) alone at 11-8 in league play. UCSD improves to 14-9 overall. The Gators, who entered tied for fifth and were winners of two straight, now stand in a three-way tie for the final postseason slot at 10-9 in the CCAA and 14-11 overall.
Dautremont finished 10-of-16 from the floor en route to her game-high 22 points. She also added two assists to her fifth double-double of the year. The Tritons also received a career-high 16 points from Cassie MacLeod in the victory. The freshman forward finished six-of-11 from the field, both career highs, and added four rebounds and two assists to her line.
As a team, UCSD finished .458 from the floor on 27-of-59 shooting. The Tritons buried 10 treys on 23 attempts for a mark of .435. SFSU also shot the ball well on the night and finished 24-of-60 from the floor, a percentage of .400.
After Dautremont opened the game with four straight points, the Gators responded and grabbed their largest lead of the night, 20-12, at the 12:31 mark. The Tritons managed to climb back into the game, tying the contest at 28 with 5:12 remaining in the first half on a McKennan Bertsch layup.
UCSD closed the half on a 10-6 run to lead 38-34 at the intermission.
The Tritons extended the lead in the second half and eventually earned their largest lead of the night at the 11:31 mark of nine points, 57-48. The Gators refused to lie down, however, and cut the UCSD lead to a pair 68-66 with 4:03 remaining.
After exchanging misses with the Tritons still up two, Miranda Seto put the finishing touches on the game with a difficult three as the shot clock expired to make the score 71-66. UCSD closed out the game in the final minute to win 74-69.
Seto finished with 13 points, six rebounds and four assists for UCSD, while Bertsch scored seven points and Stephanie Yano totaled six.
San Francisco State was led by 18 points from Angela Van Sickel and a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds from Katie Batlin in the loss.
