AZUSA, Calif. and WALNUT, Calif. - Members of the UC San Diego men’s and women’s track and field programs were in action in two locations on Thursday.

Junior Veronica Bradley, redshirt freshman Dan Golubovic and freshman Casey Buck completed the California Invitational at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa. The decathlon/heptathlon event had gotten underway on Wednsday at Cougar Stadium.

Bradley tied for 18th in the heptathlon with a personal-record 4618 points. She eclipsed the NCAA provisional standard of 4400 points, and moved up from fifth to third all-time in program history. Her previous best from 2013 was 4383 points.

Participating in their first collegiate decathlon and heptathlon, respectively, were Golubovic and Buck. Golubovic won the “B” flight of the decathlon over 14 opponents, totaling 6720 points for a strong provisional qualifier (6200). He now also ranks third at UCSD. Golubovic was tops in the discus, second in the pole vault, third in the high jump and fourth in the javelin.

Buck scored 3942 points for 40th in the heptathlon, ranking her ninth at UCSD. Her top placement of seventh over the seven events came in Wednesday’s shot put.

On the track on the first night of the 56th Annual Mt. SAC Relays at Historic Hilmer Lodge Stadium on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Scott Acton ran his second PR of the 2014 season in the 10000, going 30:51.86 to lower his prior best of 31:09.07 from the Cal-Nevada meet, and moving up from No. 5 to No. 4 all-time at UCSD. The time was a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Championships.

Sophomore Paige Hughes ran a personal-record 37:03.67 in the 10000 meters. She bettered her mark of 37:04.39 from the Cal-Nevada Championships on April 4.

Daniel Franz turned in a third personal record on the track in the 3000 steeplechase, dipping under the 9:30 barrier at 9:29.72.

Senior Kellen Levy, the reigning California Collegiate Athletic Association champion in the 10000, ran the distance for the first time this season and went 31:53.75.

In the final race of the night, Chandler Colquitt timed 37:38.85, a PR by almost 20 seconds (37:58.20), moving her from No. 8 to No. 7 all-time in the program.

Members of the Triton distance crew will conclude competition at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday starting at 11:45 a.m., with UCSD hosting the discus and hammer throw events of the Soka Peace Invitational on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the UCSD Throwing Field. A majority of the Tritons will be in Aliso Viejo on Saturday for the remainder of the Soka Peace Invitational at Soka University.
