UCSD Closes Season With 9-0 Victory Against Cal State Stanislaus

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The 17th-ranked UC San Diego women's tennis team closed out its season on a strong note Friday, rolling to a 9-0 victory against Cal State Stanislaus at Northview Courts.

UCSD finished its 2014 campaign at 9-16 overall, while CSUS fell to 5-13 with one match remaining on its schedule.

The Tritons gave up just five points over the three doubles matches and won five of six singles contests in straight sets.

The two senior members of the team wrapped up their careers in style. Tara Vanooteghem and Laura Wilke paired up at No. 3 doubles to blank Kaitlyn Ireland and Jessica Stokes, 8-0. The tandem posted a 14-10 record this season.

Both were winners in their singles matches as well, each giving up just one set to their opponent. At No. 4, Vanooteghem defeated Analyssa Tallas, 6-0 and 6-1. In the No. 6 spot, Wilke cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Ireland.

At No. 1 doubles, the 17th-ranked duo of Paula Chou and Kyra Scott took down J'Ana Diamond and McKenzy Harden, 8-2. Nava Nowamooz and Shannon Theisen earned an 8-3 win against Jessica Laurie and Tallas.

Chou and Scott won a team-leading 15 doubles matches over the season.

Scott, ranked 26th nationally in singles play, had no trouble dispatching Laurie in the top spot, 6-1 and 6-0.

Also winning singles matches for the Tritons were Chou at No. 2, Nowamooz at No. 3 and Theisen at No. 5.

Nowamooz and Scott each collected 11 singles wins this season, while Vanooteghem was just behind with 10.
