LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego men’s water polo team had five student-athletes named as recipients of 2012 All-Academic awards as selected by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC). The announcement was made Thursday afternoon.
The All-Academic awards are separated into three tiers based on the overall GPA of student-athletes. An Outstanding level is given to those with a GPA ranging from 3.71 to 4.00, a Superior honor goes to those with a 3.41 to 3.70 and an Excellent rating is bestowed upon those with a GPA between 3.20 and 3.40.
Senior Brian Donohoe earned his fourth ACWPC All-Academic honor, receiving Outstanding merit after posting a 4.0 GPA during the fall of 2012. The history major carries a team-high 3.97 cumulative GPA.
Barton, Donohoe, Friedrich and Lorch were also recognized by the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Thursday morning as they were named to the league’s All-Academic Team.
