SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The ninth-ranked UC San Diego men's water polo team outscored No. 11 Santa Clara 4-2 in the opening quarter and never looked back, defeating the Broncos by a 10-7 margin in a Western Water Polo Association tilt at SCU's Sullivan Aquatic Center.

The Tritons snapped a two-match losing streak with the victory and spoiled the Bronco's 2010 home opener. UCSD improves to 10-8 overall and 6-3 in WWPA play, while SCU falls to 13-9 on the season and 6-5 in conference action.

Redshirt junior Graham Saber scored three goals to pace the Tritons, while John Butler and Brian Donohoe finished with two goals apiece. Ryan Allred, Jakub Bednarek and Dane Sequeira also tallied goals for UCSD.

After both teams traded scores in the second quarter, the Tritons outscored the Broncos 3-1 in the third stanza to take an 8-4 advantage heading into the fourth.

Kilpa and Poggetti scored the first two goals of the final quarter as Santa Clara closed to within 8-6, but UCSD answered on the other end and limited the Broncos to just one score the rest of the way.

The Tritons, who have won seven of their last 10 overall, will come home to face No. 10 Loyola Marymount next Saturday at 2:00 p.m. UCSD's annual alumni game will precede the matchup with Lions at 11:00 a.m. at Canyonview Pool.
