UC San Diego Places 13 Players on WWPA All-Academic Teams

LOS ANGELES - The UC San Diego men's and women's water polo teams had a combined 13 student-athletes named to the 2010-11 Western Water Polo Association All-Academic Teams, it was announced Monday. All told, 113 student-athletes earned spots on the All-Academic squad.

From the men's squad, Ryan Allred (Urban Studies & Planning, 3.65), William Brown (Urban Studies & Planning, 3.31), Lance Curtiss (Mechanical Engineering, 3.07), Brian Donohoe (History, 3.94), Matt Kerchner (Economics & History, 3.15), Graham Saber (ICA Music, 3.23), Dane Sequeira (Mechanical Engineering, 3.82) and Josh Stiling (Chemical Engineering. 3.08) were honored.

Melissa Bartow (Human Development, 3.00), Kirsten Bates (Environmental Systems, 3.19), Hanalei Crowell (Economics, 3.27), Natalie Peng, (Sociology, 3.30) and Allie Taylor (Biology, 3.41) were selected from the women's side.

The Triton women won their first WWPA title since 2000 and advanced to the NCAA Championships for the first time in program history. UCSD defeated Iona 15-9 to finish seventh at the Championships. Brad Kreutzkamp's squad finished 18-20 in 2011 and ranked No. 14.

The UCSD men's team finished the year with a 13-13 overall mark and finished fourth at the 2010 WWPA Championships.
