THIRD IS THE WORD
UCSD has been tabbed to finish third in the Western Water Polo Association by a preseason poll of conference coaches, it was announced Monday. The Tritons garnered the second-most first place votes in the poll with two, but finished third behind UC Davis (107 points) with 102 overall points. No. 8 Loyola Marymount is favored to win the WWPA for a fifth consecutive year, gaining nine first place votes and 118 points overall. Rounding out the top-five is No. 14 Santa Clara (92 points) and No. 18 Air Force (79 points), respectively.

RSVP'S ACCEPTED FOR INVITE
Five WWPA teams will dive into the pool at this weekend's invitational, including Air Force, LMU, La Verne, Redlands and UCSD. Cal Lutheran of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is the last participant of the Invite. The Tritons were 5-2 combined in 2010 against these same opponents with both losses coming at the hands of WWPA Champion LMU. At the 2010 Triton Invite, UCSD went 2-2 with an 11-6 win over Air Force and a 16-3 victory over La Verne. In the same tournament, the Tritons fell to LMU, 3-7, and Pacific, 2-5. LMU went 3-1 at the 2010 Invite, while Air Force and La Verne went 1-3 and 0-4, respectively.

UCSD WATER POLO - 2011 EDITION
Head Coach Denny Harper welcomes 14 fresh faces to this year's squad who will join 11 letterwinners from a 2010 team that tallied a 13-13 overall record. The Tritons return four starters- All-Americans Brian Donohoe and David Morton, in addition to All-WWPA Freshman Team honoree Dane Sequeira and junior John Butler. Donohoe led all Tritons with 45 goals in 2010, while Butler contributed the most assists with 29. Morton, who accounted for 216 saves and a .617 save percentage in 2010, needs just 42 more saves to move into the Top 5 career save-leaders in program history. The Tritons will also rely heavily on seniors William Brown and Graham Saber, who scored 20 and 31 goals a year ago, respectively.
