Triton senior Graham Saber had a doubleheader to remember last Saturday against Pomona Pitzer and Claremont. He scored 12 goals on the day, registering seven against Pitzer and five against CMS. He also tallied two assists and a steal in the Claremont match. Saber currently leads UCSD with 19 goals, is tied for team-lead with eight assists, and is third on the team with five steals. He earned WWPA Player of the Week honors for his performance.

In addition to Saber's seven-goal performance against Pomona Pitzer, Matthew Michalko registered the second hat trick of his young Triton career in the 15-4 win. Michalko is currently third on the squad with seven goals in six matches, and has drawn a team-high 11 ejections. Michalko added an assist and a steal in the 12-5 win over Claremont on Saturday evening.

The Tritons currently lead the WWPA in terms of overall win-percentage with a 5-1 (.833) overall record. LMU and UC Davis trail the Tritons with a 4-1 (.800) and 5-2 (.714) overall record, respectively; however, the Lions and Aggies are perfect in WWPA play, with LMU at 3-0 and UCD at 4-0. UCSD is currently 4-1 in WWPA competitions. The Tritons and Aggies will face off in La Jolla on October 28 while the Lions visit Canyonview next Thursday.

The Whittier Poets enter Friday's contests with a 2-3 overall record, coming off a pair of wins over Cal Tech and Occidental in the Inland Empire Classic last weekend. The Poets trailed 3-0 at halftime against Occidental, but recovered with five unanswered goals to take a 5-4 lead in the eventual 9-7 victory. Whittier is led by Second Team All-American Chad Evenrud. The Poets were picked to finish ninth in the WWPA by a preseason poll of conference coaches. UCSD last faced Whittier on November 21, 2009, when the Tritons defeated the Poets, 16-3, in the second round of the WWPA Championships.

The United States Naval Academy comes into Friday's match as the 15th-ranked team in the CWPA Top 20 with a 4-1 overall record. The Midshipmen earned their record in September 3-4's Navy Open in Annapolis, Maryland, with wins over Gannon (23-3), No. 19 St. Francis (9-8, OT), Vanguard (18-12) and Mt. San Antonio College (17-4). Navy fell 14-6 to No. 13 Concordia as well in the Open. The Midshipmen are returning to action after nearly two weeks off, due to the cancellation of last week's Bucknell Invitational because of flooding. UCSD topped Navy the last time the two squads met, 9-6, on September 19, 2010 in the Norcal Invitational.
