LA JOLLA, Calif. - Cameron Ravanbach, the sophomore goalie for UC San Diego was named KAP7 Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Player of the Week, in was announced Wednesday.
The La Jolla native is the first member of the Triton roster to receive the weekly honor this season as the team is currently leading the conference and was recently ranked No. 11 among Division I programs.
The sophomore goalkeeper compiled 24 saves and three steals in this past weeks play. Ravanbach grabbed eight saves and a steal in the 10-9 home victory over 13th-ranked Air Force on Oct. 18. Ravanbach was at his best against ninth-ranked Loyola Marymount, as he took down 19 saves on Oct. 20, accounting for a new single game career high. The total saves include four blocked six-on-five power plays and one five-meter penalty shot on the road.
Ravanbach tallied up another seven saves against the well balanced second-ranked Bruins of UCLA on Sunday, bringing his season total to 167 saves.
Ravanbach is only the second goalie to earn the weekly honor, as Mike Fish of Air Force was honored the week of Sept. 19.
The Tritons return to Canyonview Aquatic Center this Friday, Oct. 26 to host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 6 p.m. The action continues Saturday morning as Pomona-Pitzer comes to visit at 11 a.m.
