DAVIS, Calif. - The 10th-ranked UC San Diego men's water polo team posted early and consistent offense to take an 11-8 victory over Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) opponent UC Davis Thursday night on the road.
The Tritons improved to 12-7 on the year and 11-2 in the WWPA. UC Davis, ranked 16th nationally, slipped to 12-15 overall and 10-5 in conference play.
Both John Butler and Josh Stiling finished with hat tricks. Joe Dietrich added a pair of goals and Luke Syka, Tommy Friedrich, and Brian Donohoe each chipped in one apiece to account for the Tritons' total of 11.
UCSD came out strong in the first half, which saw Butler tally all three of his goals over the opening two quarters. Stiling picked up right where Butler left off, scoring three of his own in the second half to help solidify the Tritons' strong lead.
Goalkeeper Cameron Ravanbach and UCSD's defense made it difficult for the Aggies to keep up early on, holding them to 1-for-14 in first quarter shots. Ravanbach finished the game with 10 saves in cage.
UCSD's final road trip of the regular season will conclude at Santa Clara on Saturday, Nov. 3 at Sullivan Aquatic Center. The game is set to start at noon.
