MISSION VIEJO, Calif. - As host of the 63rd Annual Southern California Intercollegiate Championship, the UC San Diego men's golf team placed seventh in a 16-team field Tuesday at Mission Viejo Country Club in Orange County.

With the second straight day of perfect weather for the three-round tournament, Cal State Stanislaus won the team title, leading after every round and totaling a 39-over par 891. The Warriors were three strokes ahead of second place Cal State Monterey Bay (+42, 894) and 14 in front of third place Grand Canyon (+53, 905).

It was the second consecutive victory for Stanislaus as the Warriors won the event in 2012 as well.

UCSD's "A" team concluded play with a total of 927, 75-over par, for its seventh place standing. The "B" squad placed 13th with a 106-over 958.

Alex Carpenter of Abilene Christian ran away with the individual crown as the only player among 88 to finish under par. He fired a 6-under 207, which included a course record 63 in the third round. Carpenter topped the MVCC mark by five strokes.

Placing a distant second was Jered Stone of Cal State Monterey Bay, who finished nine strokes behind Carpenter with a 3-over 216. Rob Damschen of Cal State Stanislaus was third, carding a 217, 4-over par.

Two UCSD players were among the top 15 finishers. Jay Lim shot a 14-over par 227 to come off in a three-way tie for 10th place. He fired a 73 in the opening round, a 75 in round two and a 79 in the third round. Triton freshman Clayton Yamaguchi tied with five other players for 13th place, totaling a 15-over 228 by going 76-73-79.

The rounds of 73 by Lim and Yamaguchi were the lowest by any Triton. Lim posted 10 birdies over the tourney, tied for the fourth-highest total of any player. Yamaguchi's scoring average of 4.78 on par-5 holes was tied for the fifth-best.

The top finisher from UCSD's "B" team was Ryan Rankin, who placed 32nd with a 21-over 234.

UC San Diego was fifth following the first round of play and tied for fourth after two rounds.

The MVCC course played tough the entire tournament as the field averaged 79.98 strokes on the par-71 layout. It totaled 6,792 yards in the first round while the second round played at 6,799 yards and the third round was 6,770 yards.
