LA JOLLA, Calif. - UC San Diego women's water polo standout Sarah Lizotte has been named the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Co-Player of the Week. The announcement was made Wednesday by the league.
Lizotte scored 11 goals while adding three assists and seven steals to help lead No. 17 UCSD to a perfect 4-0 record at the Claremont Convergence tournament. The Tritons recorded victories against Whittier, Cal Lutheran, Chapman and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
The junior utility player scored a tourney-high four goals in the Tritons' 15-1 win over Chapman, the team's largest margin of victory this season. Lizotte grabbed at least one steal in all four games, totaling three against Whittier.
Lizotte leads the Tritons in goals (41) and is second in assists (28) and steals (28). She is ranked fourth in the league in scoring and assists and fifth in steals.
Lizotte shares this week's award with Cal State Monterey Bay's Jackie Walters and Cal State San Bernardino's Misty Vu, as all three athletes posted at least 10 goals over the week.
A Riverside native, Lizotte earned WWPA Player of the Week accolades earlier this season after compiing 13 goals, five assists and five steals at the UC Santa Barbara Winter Invitational.
The Tritons return to the San Diego area to play in San Diego State's Aztec Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17. UCSD's schedule will feature games against No. 15 Cal State Northridge, No. 1 UC Davis, No. 11 Indiana and Bucknell.
