UC San Diego utility Sarah Lizotte
earned KAP7 Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week after leading the Tritons to a 3-1 record over the team's first week of play, it was announced by the conference on Wednesday morning.
Lizotte scored 20 goals over four games last week, including a career-high eight scores in the Tritons' 11-6 win over Marist on January 29 at the Terrapin Invitational. She shot 58-percent (20-for-34) while adding five assists and eight ejections drawn.
The sophomore from Riverside opened the season with six goals in UCSD's 14-11 win over WWPA-foe Colorado State on January 26 and then followed with 14 goals at January 28-29's Terrapin Invite. She had two goals, two assists and three ejections drawn in the 11-6 win over Wagner and proceeded to score four goals in a 14-6 setback to host Maryland. UCSD went 2-1 at the tournament.
For Lizotte, it marks the second time in her career she has taken home WWPA Player of the Week honors. She won as a freshman on April 13, 2011 after recording 12 goals, eight assists, six steals and five ejections drawn at Santa Clara University's Bronco Invitational.
The Tritons have this weekend off, but return to action on February 10 in their first home match of the season against Marist at Canyonview Pool. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
The following two days, January 11 and 12, UCSD will host its annual Triton Invitational. 11 of the Top 20 teams in the latest CWPA National Poll will be in attendance. The Tritons are ranked No. 17 in the poll released today, February 1.
