DAVIS, Calif. - The No. 20 UC San Diego women's water polo team outlasted Pacific 9-8 in overtime before falling to No. 16 UC Davis 11-3 at the Aggie Shootout on Saturday at Schaal Aquatics Center.

Tied 6-6 through regulation with Pacific (8-6), Sarah Lizotte drew a penalty shot and Kirsten Bates converted from five meters to hand UCSD a 7-6 edge with 2:43 left in the first overtime. Under two minutes later, Lizotte added her second goal of the game to give the Tritons a two-goal edge heading into the final extra frame.

Natalie Peng made it 9-6 minutes into the second overtime and UCSD held on for the one-goal victory, despite a pair of goals from the Aggies in the final 68 seconds.

Bates led the Tritons with three scores in the contest, while Lizotte added a pair of goals. Melissa Bartow, Lindsay Holbrook and Brittany Daniels rounded out the scoring for the Tritons.

Tied 3-3 at half and then 5-5 after the third quarter, Pacific took the lead when Taylor Adair scored with a man-advantage 47 seconds into the final frame. Just over a minute later, UCSD drew a penalty and Bates converted the free shot to pull even at 6-6 with 5:28 remaining.

The afternoon affair wasn't as kind to the Tritons, as Lizotte managed UCSD's lone goal in the opening half. UCD (6-12) took a 6-1 lead into the break and pushed its lead to nine by the end of the third quarter after holding the Tritons scoreless in the second and third frames.

UCSD outscored UCSD 2-1 in the fourth on goals by Rachel Brooks and Peng, but it proved too little too late.

The Tritons went 2-1 on the weekend with Saturday's victory against Pacific and a 14-9 win over Sonoma State on Friday afternoon. UCSD is 9-8 overall on the season.

UCSD returns to Canyonview Pool next Friday, March 9 to take on Colorado State at 6:00 p.m. in Western Water Polo Association play. The Tritons opened the season with a 14-11 win over the Rams on January 16 in Fort Collins, Colo.

The following day, the Tritons clash with No. 7 Loyola Marymount at noon in Los Angeles. LMU and UCSD have not met since the Tritons prevailed 13-11 over the Lions in the 2011 WWPA championship match on May 1.
