SAN DIEGO -
The No. 19 UC San Diego women's water polo team topped Bucknell 10-8 behind six goals from sophomore Sarah Lizotte
, as the Tritons finished 2-2 at the Aztec Invitational on Sunday at the Aztec Aquaplex. UCSD fell to No. 14 Hawaii 11-9 on Sunday morning.
UCSD moves to 12-11 overall on the year. On Saturday, the Tritons upset No. 11 Indiana 7-6 in their opening game before dropping an overtime affair 7-6 to No. 18 Princeton.
Lizotte joined Jessica Tran, Melissa Bartow and Kristen Bates with two goals apiece in the Tritons' morning loss to the Rainbow Wahine, but responded with a six-pack of scores in UCSD's victory over the Bisons. Katherine Biehle, Natalie Peng, Bartow and Tran also scored in the win over Bucknell.
Down 8-6 heading into the final quarter against the Bisons, the Tritons held Bucknell scoreless while piling-in four goals of their own. Allie Taylor made five saves.
UCSD's .500 record at the Aztec Invite is a vast improvement over the team's 0-4 record at the same tournament in 2011. It is the Tritons' best performance since going 3-1 at the tournament in 2010.
The Tritons have a week and a half off before regrouping for March 30 and 31's UCSD Mini Tournament at Canyonview Pool. UCSD faces Brown at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 30. The team then hosts Azusa Pacific and Fresno Pacific at 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, respectively.
