The Lancers face the Tritons in the second game of CBU's four-game, two-day road trip. CBU is coming off a perfect month of March in which the team went 11-0 on its way to its 13th consecutive victory. The Lancers have not lost since February 24 to UC Davis and have defeated three Western Water Polo Association squads (Cal State Monterey Bay, CSU Bakersfield, Santa Clara) and one ranked team (Hartwick) during their win streak. Petra Kovacs leads CBU with 27 goals on the year, while Laura Kocsis has logged 12. CBU broke into the CWPA Top 20 for the first time this season on March 28 at No. 20. UCSD is 8-0 all-time against CBU.
WHAT DID BROWN DO FOR YOU?
The Tritons narrowly escaped Friday night's clash with Brown, surviving a 17-minute scoreless streak on their way to a 7-6 victory. UCSD led 6-1 with six minutes left in the second quarter, but not find the net again until the 4:52 mark of the fourth quarter. However, UCSD did limit Brown to just six goals throughout and 1-for-3 on 6-on-5's, improving to 13-3 in games in which the team gives up less than 10 goals. Taylor matched a career-high with 13 saves in the cage while Bates and Biehle each scored twice. The Tritons are 6-0 all-time against the Bears.
WELCOME TO THE PARTY
Four Tritons registered their first goals of the season on Saturday at the mini-tournament. Freshmen Haley Kunert and Jolene Guiliana scored the first goals of their careers in UCSD's 13-4 win over Azusa Pacific. Sophomore Kat Andersen also scored her first of the year against APU and added another in the Tritons' 16-5 win over Fresno Pacific. Freshman Andie Nishimi got her first score against FPU with 1:18 left in the fourth. 18 Tritons have recorded goals this season.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES FROM THE MINI TOURNAMENT
Biehle led the Tritons with six goals over the three games at the competition, including a hat trick in UCSD's win over FPU. Leah Gonzales recorded a solid weekend, scoring four goals on 4-of-9 shooting while adding four assists and four steals. Sarah Lizotte scored five goals, added three assists and stole the ball three times while Melissa Bartow registered totals of three goals, five assists and four ejections drawn. Bartow's five assists were her first assists this season.
A couple Tritons cracked the single season Top 10 record books over the weekend. Lizotte's team-leading 66 goals this year are tied for the seventh-most in a single season. Her teammate, Bates, also logged 66 goals in 2010. Lizotte has also tallied the sixth-most shot attempts in single season history with 165 to this point. Bartow's 72 ejections drawn this year are ninth-most of any Triton in a single season.
