With just two short weeks remaining in regular season play, there is still much to be decided in the race to the CCAA Championship Tournament. It is, however, certain that Humboldt State has secured one of the four spots, as they now sport a 23-5 record in league play. UCSD’s magic number is two in order to clinch a spot outright. Five teams (Sonoma State, Chico State, Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State San Bernardino) remain in the running for the two remaining spots. Check out the most current CCAA standings here.

The Tritons traveled back to Turlock last weekend where they faced Cal State Stanislaus in CCAA action... UCSD walked away with the sweep over the Warriors (11-1, 11-3, 9-3, 6-3)…
The Tritons are currently on a six-game win streak, and 12-4 in the last 16 contests… Freshman pitcher Alexis Edwards leads the CCAA with an ERA of 1.27, while junior Jennifer Manuel is third in the conference in the same category with a 1.62 ERA… Caitlin Brown leads UCSD hitting with six home runs, 35 RBI and a .538 slugging percentage…  Emily McQuaid is third in the conference in stolen bases with 21… Taylor Sepulveda, Caitlin Brown and Mya Romero are the only three Tritons to earn a spot in the starting lineup in all 44 games… Sepulveda has a team high 128 at bats, good for a .367 batting average.

The Lumberjacks are coming off  a 3-1 weekend with Sonoma State, showing there power at the plate with six home runs... Both Dani Randall and Julie Pena each posted two, respectively... On the mound, Katie Obbema picked up two wins while Lizzie Perez earned a 1-1 split... HSU’s season home run total now sits at 81, with Chrissy Stalf posting a team high 20.

UCSD swept their regular season series with HSU in 2012, at Triton Softball Field. Wrapping up the series, the Tritons earned a pair of run-rule victories, 8-0 (6) and 9-1 (5). UCSD is 15-22 (.405) all-time against the Lumberjacks.

The Tritons recently came away with a pair of run–rule wins (leading by eight or more runs after five innings) against Cal State Stanislaus over the weekend, bringing the season total to five. The first two came in the regular season opening series with Cal State San Bernardino, the other in the night cap of the Mar. 8 doubleheader at Cal State East Bay. Last season, UCSD was able to accomplish the feat nine times.

Mya Romero leads the conference in assists with 116 on the year. Romero broke into the hundreds the weekend of Apr. 5-7 at the Mizuno Tournament of Champions, the first in the conference to reach this feat. She will need 122 to earn another spot on the program’s single season top-10, as she already owns the record, set at 177 in 2012.

Emily McQuaid ranks third in the CCAA and leads the Tritons with 21 stolen bases, showing she's a runner to keep your eye on. McQuaid had a single game-high three steals against Regis University on Feb. 17 and again at home against San Francisco State on March 29. McQuaid now sits at No. 4 on the program's career top-10 with 47 swipes.
