Gerred Link was named an assistant coach with the UCSD men's basketball program in September of 2012.
Link comes to La Jolla after serving as an assistant coach with fellow California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) member Sonoma State since 2010. He also played guard for the Seawolves from 2007-09.
Link's coaching career began at Sonoma State as a student assistant in 2010. He rapidly progressed to a full-time assistant that same year and was responsible for providing tactical and technical skills instruction to the guards. In addition, Link was involved in recruiting, compliance, scouting, film management, strength and conditioning, fundraising and budgeting.
While in Rohnert Park, Link was also the co-director of Sonoma State's basketball camps.
Link's playing resumé includes both domestic and international competition.
He captained the 2008-09 Sonoma State squad and was named the team's Most Valuable Player that season. He was the tabbed the Seawolves' Most Inspirational Player following the 2007-08 campaign.
From 2004-06, Link competed at Grossmont College in El Cajon, where he was an All-Pacific Coast Conference selection in both basketball and tennis. He was a member of the baseball team at Los Angeles Pierce College in 2004.
Link traveled overseas to play for the Aix-Marseille Area Select Team in Aix-en-Provence, France, from August 2009 through January of 2010.
The Los Angeles native earned a Bachelor's Degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in exercise science from Sonoma State in 2011. He is currently pursuing a Master's in kinesiology with a concentration in biomechanics and exercise physiology.
