Former UC Santa Cruz swimmer Jason Martin is in his second season as an assistant coach at UC San Diego in 2012-13 after being named to the post in September of 2011.

In his first year with the program, Martin helped guide the Tritons to a runner-up finish on the men's side and a third-place showing on the women's at the 2012 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships in Mansfield, Texas.

Before arriving in La Jolla, Martin had been the Masters head coach and age group assistant coach at the Almaden Swim and Racquet Club in San Jose since 2009. He was responsible for overhauling the entire Masters program, which saw its number of swimmers almost double and turned a profit for the first time. Martin also served as the primary coach for over 100 age groupers from eight to 19 years old. The program went from producing three Junior Olympics qualifiers to 10 each season.

From 2008-09, Martin was an assistant coach at his alma mater, in charge of the UC Santa Cruz middle-distance group. He prepped five swimmers to a total of 10 All-American performances and led the Slugs to two individual A cuts, 10 individual B cuts and six relay B cuts.

Martin spent over five years (2003-08) as the head swimming coach at the Almaden Country Club, also located in San Jose. He designed and executed training plans for every age group from U-6 up to 17-18. The team improved its finish in the league championships from fourth to first during Martin's tenure.

A four-year member of the UC Santa Cruz swim team, Martin was elected team captain in both his junior and senior seasons. As a senior, he achieved an NCAA B cut in the 400 IM.

A 2009 graduate of UCSC, Martin earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry.
