Alongside his duties with the Tritons, Alderman currently serves as a coach with San Diego's COAST Volleyball Club. Since 2009, he has been an assistant with the COAST VBC 18-1 Ozhan side that has a pair of top-five Junior Nationals open division placements to its credit in 2010-11.
Alderman has also spent considerable time coaching in his native Australia. In 2011, he was the Queensland State Senior Men's head coach, Australia Men's Cup finalists. He coached at Saint Joseph's High School in Queensland in 2011, and worked junior and youth camps in Australia from 2001-09.
As the starting setter and regular captain for the Volleyball Team Australia Men (VTAM) senior side, Alderman appeared in over 300 matches from 1997-2011. He led Australia to an 11th-place finish at the 2004 Athens Olympics and an eighth-place showing at the 2007 World Cup in Japan.
Having also participated in multiple World and Asian Championships across the globe from Argentina to Indonesia, Alderman was chosen the second-best setter at the 2008 Olympic Qualification Tournament in Japan. Early on, he played in more than 100 matches for the VTAM junior team from 1996-99, again with many as captain, including at the 1999 World University Games in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
Alderman's professional playing career included stops in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Montenegro and Turkey. He aided Budvanska Rivijera in Montenegro to a third-place finish in the 2007-08 CEV Cup.
Alderman currently resides in Del Mar.
