by UCSD

LA JOLLA, Calif. - UC San Diego is one of just 26 institutions to be honored with a 2014 NCAA Division II Award of Excellence for the Row for the Cure event that was staged jointly by the Triton men's and women’s rowing programs in October.

This event raised over $15,000 to help finance local and national breast cancer research in accordance with the Susan G. Komen Foundation. UCSD is the only California Collegiate Athletic Association school to earn the award.

The Division II Award of Excellence winners are each awarded $500 for the event or activity in which they were recognized. The national winner receives a cash prize of $1,500 and a nationally-televised football or basketball game on CBS Sports Network during the 2014-15 season. The runner-up earns a $1,250 cash prize and the second runner-up receives $1,000 to be used on future community engagement initiatives.

The Award of Excellence recognizes events and activities that exemplify the type of community engagement the division emphasizes.
