SEATTLE - The University of California San Diego women's rowing team finished seventh of nine crews in the Championship 8 race Sunday at the 38th Head of the Lake on Lake Washington.

UC San Diego, the lone NCAA Division II crew in the race with the eight others coming from Division I institutions, finished with a time of 20:23.459 over the 4800-meter course.

UCSD came in 3:09.600 behind the University of Washington, which crossed the finish line with a winning time of 17:13.861. The Tritons placed in front of Seattle University (21:03.076) and the University of Oregon (23:21.090).

"The team has worked very hard all fall for this race," said UCSD head coach Colin Truex. "The conditions were extremely challenging to say the least. Cold, snow, and wind are situations we are not used to in San Diego, but we rowed tough and pushed ourselves to a solid finish despite the challenges."

The Tritons' Varsity 8 crew was coxswain Marie Kawahara, Audrey Ruttan, Storrey Lance, Evelyn Brady, Caitlin Tribelhorn, Sydney McGuire, Alana Zaleski, Tonya Khounani, and Brooke Campbell.

"I am very proud of how we went about our work today and am looking forward to seeing what this experience can do for us as we settle into the grind of winter training," said Truex.

UC San Diego concludes its fall competition slate Nov. 12 at the San Diego Classic on Mission Bay.
