Tritons Set for 45th San Diego Crew Classic This Weekend
The UC San Diego men's and women's rowing teams compete at the two-day, 45th Annual San Diego Crew Classic this weekend, which is the largest spring regatta in the United States. Boats will be hitting the water on both Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25.
The event will include not only collegiate races, but high school (juniors), masters, alumni and many other divisions as well. The Crew Classic will start with the Women's Varsity High School 4s at 7:20 a.m on Saturday. For a complete schedule of events, click here.
Free public parking will be available at Ski Beach. Shuttles will run on Saturday and Sunday from the parking area to the main gates of the competition area starting at 6:00 a.m. and ending at 7:00 p.m on Saturday and 5:00 p.m on Sunday. The San Diego Crew Classic has also teamed up with ride service Uber, offering a special promo code for event attendees. For more information, click here.

A LOOK BACK TO 2017
At the 2017 San Diego Crew Classic, the Triton women finished fourth ("A" crew) and sixth ("B" crew) in the Varsity 8 DII/DIII/Club Grand Final, fifth in the Novice 8 DII/DIII/Club Grand Final and sixth in the Varsity 4 DII/DIII/Club Final. A full recap can be found here.
The men earned a third-place finish in the Varsity 8 Cal Cup Grand Final, took second in the 2V8 Cabrillo Cup Petite Final and placed third in the 3V8. For a full recap, click here.
THE SEASON SO FAR
Early in the season, the men's rowing team placed first in the Varsity 8+ and JV 8+ in the San Diego City Championships on Feb. 24, before the Varsity 8+ crew went on to take second at the UC Cup Challenge on March 6. The Tritons JV and 3V crews both went undefeated during the Western Sprints Challenge on March 13.
To begin the season, the Triton women recorded three second-place finishes at the UC Challenge on March 3. UC San Diego's Varsity 8 crew went on to take second place at the Sacramento State Invitational on March 10. In addition, the Tritons 2V4 and Novice 4 boats both earned first-place finishes at the Sac State Invite.
After the Classic, the UC San Diego men will travel to Philadelphia, Pa., where they will once again vie for the Kerr Cup on April 14. The women remain on the West Coast to compete in the Berg Cup in Newport Beach on March 31.
