No. 3 Tritons Selected to Compete at NCAA Division II Women's Rowing Championships
INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 3 University of California San Diego women’s rowing team has earned a spot at the 2019 NCAA Division II Women’s Rowing Championships. The NCAA announced its qualifiers this afternoon during a live online selection show.
UC San Diego is one of six teams that will take part in the championships, which will take place from May 31-June 2 at the Indianapolis Rowing Center. The Tritons will be joined by Central Oklahoma, Florida Tech, Seattle Pacific, Thomas Jefferson, and Western Washington.
The NCAA also revealed the lane assignments during its selection show. The Varsity 8 will compete in lane four of Heat B, taking on Florida Tech and Western Washington, while the Varsity 4 will race in lane four of Heat B, facing Seattle Pacific and Florida Tech.
“We are very excited to qualify for the NCAA Championships for the third straight year,” said Head Coach Colin Truex. “We are taking seven four-year seniors with is which is such a great way for them to end their collegiate rowing careers. This team has been focused all season on getting back to the championships and we are hungrier than ever to win one for UC San Diego!”
Last season, the Tritons claimed a runner-up finish in the Varsity 8 race at the championships. Six members of the boat, including coxswain Juni Kim, will be returning to compete with the Varsity 8 in this year’s competition.
