RETURNER HIGHLIGHTS

This year’s team is led by upperclassmen captains Kelvin Uribe, Jonathan Stoop, Brett Jones, and Pedro Enciso.

The Tritons have retained their top three point-getters in 2018, as Jonathan Sabouri (11), Jones (10), and Andy Sartor (8) will look to continue making an impact this year. Sabouri, entering his junior season, has led the Tritons in both goals and points during each of his first two campaigns.

On the defensive side, United Soccer Coaches All-Region selection Uribe returns for his senior year. Uribe anchored six shutouts for the Tritons during 2018.

Encisco will be back in the net this season, entering his junior year. The goalkeeper has compiled a 0.81 goals against average and a .765 save percentage during 2017 and 2018. Enciso was the only Triton to start all of UC San Diego’s contests for both of those two seasons.

COACH’S THOUGHTS

“The team’s been working hard this past week to implement some of the tactics we’ll use this fall,” said Head Coach Jon Pascale. “We’re excited to get out and challenge ourselves against a quality opponent, San Diego State. We know they’ll really test a lot of the areas that we’ve been working on and we’re excited to see how the guys respond.”

WHAT’S NEXT

UC San Diego hosts its season opener at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 5, as it takes on Concordia Irvine at Triton Soccer Field. Last season when the two teams faced off, the Tritons came away victorious, topping the Eagles in a 1-0 overtime thriller.
