Tritons To Begin Season-Opening Homestand Against Nonconference Foes
LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 3 University of California San Diego men’s soccer team is set to open the 2019 season at home as it hosts Concordia University Irvine for its season opener, followed by Fresno Pacific University.

ATTENDING THE MATCH
All regular-season matches at Triton Soccer Stadium are free to attend. Be advised that a parking permit must be purchased when parking on campus from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays. UC San Diego was ranked third in the 2019 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) men’s soccer preseason coaches poll, as voted on by the conference’s 13 head coaches. The poll was released on August 19. View the full poll here.
In the PacWest preseason poll, Fresno Pacific was picked to finish second, while Concordia Irvine was selected for fourth. Both squads received one first-place vote, while top-ranking Azusa Pacific earned the 10 remaining first-place votes. During 2018, the Sunbirds compiled a 14-3-1 overall record, making an appearance at the NCAA West Regional, while the Eagles went 9-9-0. View the full poll here.
The Tritons have not had many meetings with their pair of PacWest opponents. Against Concordia Irvine, UC San Diego is 3-1-2, including a thrilling 1-0 overtime victory over the Eagles last season. Meanwhile, the Tritons will look for their first win over Fresno Pacific, as they hold a 0-3-3 record against the Sunbirds.
UC San Diego has historically had success in its season openers. During the Division II Era, the Tritons are 13-3-3.
Additionally, the Tritons have been successful at home. During Head Coach Jon Pascale's tenure, UC San Diego holds a record of 76-26-19 in its matches at Triton Soccer Stadium.
After hosting Concordia Irvine and Fresno Pacific, UC San Diego will continue its homestand with a midweek contest. The Tritons will welcome Bethesda to Triton Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m. on Sept. 11. This will be the first match between the two teams.

BIG WEST BOUND
UC San Diego is in its 20th and final year playing as an NCAA Division II team. In July of 2020, the entire athletics program will begin a four-year transition to NCAA Division I, culminating in full DI status as a member of the Big West Conference for the 2024-25 academic year. At that time, all sports will be eligible for conference and NCAA postseason play.
