Tritons Dominate in All Facets in First Ever Meeting With Bethesda

UC San Diego

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The University of California San Diego men’s soccer team defeated Bethesda, 3-0, in the first matchup in program history between the two teams on Wednesday night. With the victory, UC San Diego improves to 3-0 to start the season, while the Flames move to an even 3-3.

The Tritons gained an early advantage just shy of the 10 minute mark, as Matt Davis’ cross was sent into the Flame net by Alessandro Allen.

Less than two minutes later, the Tritons were at it again. This time, it was Nick Cirrito with the goal. Cirrito ultimately finished the contest with a game-best seven shots, four of which were on-goal.

In the 66th minute, UC San Diego recorded its final goal of the match. Cooper Lachenbruch scored off a free kick, rocketing the ball into the bottom right corner of the net past the diving Flame goalie.

Allen, Cirrito, and Lachenbruch’s goals were all their first of 2019, with freshmen Allen’s and Lachenbruch’s being the first of their collegiate careers.

Defensively, the Tritons were perfect once again. Pedro Enciso made five saves as he picked up his third clean sheet of the season.

The Tritons’ homestand continues as they get set to face Biola University at 7 p.m. on Sept. 14 at Triton Soccer Stadium. UC San Diego looks to continue its success, as it holds a 13-7-2 record in its all-time series with the Eagles.
