Triton Soccer Teams Both Earn United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Awards
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The University of California San Diego men's and women's soccer teams were announced as recipients of the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2018-19 academic year. This is the seventh-straight year the two teams have earned the accolade.
A total of 995 college soccer squads (346 men, 649 women) across all divisions earned the award. Of that number, UC San Diego was among 258 schools that had both its men and women recognized.
UC San Diego's women combined for a 3.37 GPA in 2018, while the men compiled a GPA of 3.18.
United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of college and high school soccer teams whose scholar-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full academic year. The awards run one school year behind. This season's will be announced next fall.
College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade-point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster. The team mark is determined by adding each individual's GPA, and then dividing by the number of players.
The UC San Diego teams will be back in action on Friday, as they both host Humboldt State on Oct. 11. The men’s contest will begin at 4:30 p.m., while the women’s match will follow at approximately 7 p.m.
