Enciso, Tritons Blank Visiting Chico State

UC San Diego

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Redshirt junior goalkeeper Pedro Enciso notched four saves and the University of California San Diego men’s soccer team made a first half goal stand up as the Tritons blanked visiting Chico State, 1-0, on Friday evening at Triton Soccer Stadium. With the victory, UC San Diego improves to 10-3 on the season and 5-2 in California Collegiate Athletic Association action, while the Wildcats fall to 7-4 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

The Tritons earned what turned out to be the lone goal of the night in the 32nd minute, when freshman Cory Daley came up with a takeaway and found junior Brett Jones who deposited the ball in the back of the net to get UC San Diego on the board. The goal was Jones’ team-best ninth of the season, and Daley's first collegiate assist.

Chico State kept pushing and had opportunities to score. The Wildcats out-shot the Tritons, 7-6, for the match. However, the UC San Diego back line proved up to the challenge and Enciso notched his sixth clean sheet of the season.

The Tritons return to action Sunday as they host Stanislaus State at 11:30 a.m. inside Triton Soccer Stadium. Prior to the match, UC San Diego will honor its four seniors: Stjepan Kilic, Andy Sartor, Jonathan Stoop, and Kelvin Uribe.
