Tritons Take First at San Diego City Championships on Saturday

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The University of California San Diego men’s rowing varsity 8+ and junior varsity 8+ teams each took first place at the 2018 San Diego City Championships on Saturday at Mission Bay to earn the title of city champions.

The Tritons defeated the University of San Diego to claim the title for the 12th time in the last 14 seasons.

The UC San Diego varsity 8+ team was comprised of senior Lily Ouyang, junior Jason Germain, senior Sean Callaghan, junior Keith Mielke, sophomore Alexei Sebald, sophomore Sean Reynolds, sophomore Steven Bolton, senior Gabriel Lane and senior Gibb Anella.

The Triton JV 8+ team was made up of sophomore Madelyn Brown, sophomore Anthony Morrell, junior Victor De Cos, freshman Tazio Cappozzola, senior Hank Wong, freshman Grayson Hanson, junior Greg Coffman, sophomore Kenneth Padden and freshman Garen Doyle.

Up next, UC San Diego will compete in the UC Challenge Cup on March 3 in Newport Beach, Calif.
