RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - The University of California San Diego men's rowing team performed well at this weekend's Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships on Lake Natoma.
The Tritons' Varsity 8 crew placed third overall in the Grand Final with a time of 6-minutes, 1.92-seconds, which was just over two seconds off Santa Clara's first-place time of 5:59.63 and right behind second-place UC Santa Barbara (6:01.68).
In addition, UC San Diego's Novice 4+ crew took first overall in the Grand Final with a time of 6:59.25, defeating second-place Santa Clara (7:03.08) by nearly four full seconds. The Tritons also had two boats finish in the top three of the 2V 8+ Grand Final, as the UC San Diego "A" crew placed first at 6:13.49, and the "B" crew crossed the finish line third in 6:17.51 behind Santa Clara (6:16.28). The "A" boat consisted of senior coxswain Lily Ouyang, Anthony Morrell, Victor De Cos, Keith Mielke, Gibb Anella, Sean Reynolds, Alexei Sebald, Grayson Hanson and Micah Adelsohn.
The Tritons resume action back up north in Rancho Cordova for the Western Sprints Championships on Saturday, May 12.
