No. 25 Tritons Carry Momentum Heading Into IRA National Championships

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. – The No. 25 University of California San Diego men’s rowing team is set to compete at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships from May 31-June 2.

RACE DETAILS

This year’s competition will take place on Lake Natoma at Nimbus Flat State Park. This is the third straight season that the Tritons will compete at the IRA National Championships. Last year, the Tritons’ Varsity 8 and Second Varsity 8 crew earned spots in the fourth-level final and the Third Varsity 8 qualified for the third level final, but the last day of racing was canceled due to inclement weather. 

On Friday, the Tritons' Varsity 8 crew will face Washington, Northeastern, Cornell, Columbia, and Oregon State in their heat. The Second Varsity 8 crew will be pitted against Brown, Princeton, Cornell, George Washington, and Stanford in theirs. The Third Varsity 8 crew rounds out the action, as they will take on Princeton, Syracuse, Brown, and George Washington.

HOW TO ATTEND THE IRA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Admission is $10 per person, per day, and is cash only. Parking is also $10 per day and is cash only. Fans should park at the Hartford & Health Net buildings, where they will be shuttled to the State Park.

RANKINGS

In the latest IRA/US Rowing Poll, the UC San Diego Varsity 8 holds 25th, the Second Varsity 8 ranks 24th, and the Third Varsity 8 sits at 21st. View the full poll results, which were released on May 22, here. 

LAST TIME OUT

Following their sweep at the WIRA Championships, the Tritons recorded another sweep at the Western Sprints Championships. The Varsity 8 recorded a time of 5:55.898, the Second Varsity 8 crossed the finish line in 6:00.318, and the Third Varsity 8 posted a mark of 6:08.564, as all three crews came out on top. The Tritons’ win in the Varsity 8 race clinched the team a spot at the IRA National Championships.
