IRVINE, Calif. - The University of California San Diego men's volleyball team has been picked sixth in the 2019 Big West Conference Coaches Preseason Poll, which was released Friday.

Reigning national champion Long Beach State was a unanimous choice to win a second-straight Big West title, garnering all six first-place votes and a total of 36 points. Hawai'i was selected second with 28 points and UC Irvine was third with 26 points. UC Santa Barbara (16 points), CSUN (11), and UC San Diego (9) rounded out the poll.

The Tritons, who won seven of their first nine matches in 2018, finished at 9-19 overall and 0-10 in the Big West. The squad returns seven players, including outside hitter Wyatt Harrison, who was named to the Big West All-Freshman Team last season.

UC San Diego begins its 2019 campaign on Friday, Jan. 4 at Pepperdine. The Tritons play six matches on the road before opening their home slate at a revamped RIMAC Arena on Friday, Jan. 25 against UCLA.

Five Big West programs are ranked among the national top 15 in the AVCA Preseason Poll, including No. 1 Long Beach State. Hawai'i is No. 3, UC Irvine is No. 4, UC Santa Barbara is No. 10, and CSUN is No. 11.

The Tritons got a competitive warm-up in early November as they played in a tournament at USC, going 2-1 with victories over UC Santa Barbara and CSUN and a loss against the host Trojans.

UC San Diego students are admitted free to all regular season matches. General admission tickets are $8. Senior citizens (65+), youth (4-12), military, visiting students, and UC San Diego alumni, faculty, and staff can purchase tickets for $5.

If you aren't able to make it out to RIMAC Arena this season, all matches will be covered by a live video stream through BigWest.tv.
