OSHITA OFF TO STRONG START
Christian Oshita produced two solid performances as UC San Diego opened its 2017-18 campaign last week at the CCAA/PacWest Challenge in Pomona. Against West Region rival Azusa Pacific, the junior guard/forward scored a career-high 26 points. He was 9-for-15 from the field and netted six three-pointers, also a career-best. Oshita recorded a double-double by adding a game-high 11 rebounds. The next night, he totaled a team-high 12 points and was 4-for-9 shooting in just 21 minutes of play against Dixie State.

UC SAN DIEGO DROPS EXHIBITION AT SAN DIEGO STATE
Despite hitting 15 three-pointers, UC San Diego was defeated, 98-79, by San Diego State in an exhibition game on Nov. 2 at Viejas Arena. The Tritons shot 43.3 percent (29-67) overall and 44.1 percent (15-34) from behind the three-point line. Both teams finished with 33 rebounds, with UCSD holding a 14-8 advantage on the offensive glass. Four Tritons hit double-figure point totals, including Christian Oshita, who finished with a game-high 16. Scott Everman and Eric Patton netted 14 points apiece, with Everman going 4-for-4 from long range and Patton hauling in a game co-high eight rebounds. Christian Bayne and George Buaku each dished out four assists and Buaku added seven boards. The Aztecs, which shot 60.7 percent (34-56) for the game, got 46 of their points in the paint with 13 coming off the fast break. SDSU was 23-30 from the free throw line, while UC San Diego was 6-9. TRITONS COMING OFF HISTORIC SEASON
UC San Diego's 2016-17 season was the finest in program history as the Tritons set records for overall wins (27) as well as California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victories (17). The team won its first-ever CCAA regular season title and added a second banner by winning the league's tournament for a second time. For the second-straight season, top-seeded UCSD advanced to the NCAA West Region championship game, serving as the regional host for the first time. A 12-game win streak was also a team first and the Tritons were ranked as high as 11th in the country, finishing their campaign at No. 19. Senior guard Adam Klie was named the CCAA Player of the Year and Eric Olen was tabbed the CCAA Coach of the Year. In addition to Klie, sophomore center Chris Hansen was an All-CCAA First Team selection, while sophomore swingman Christian Oshita was named to the league's second team.
