SAN RAMON, Calif. - University of California San Diego student-athlete Christian Bayne has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Basketball Player of the Week. The announcement was made Tuesday by the league.
Over two wins at Western Washington’s Chuck Randall Classic, Bayne led UC San Diego in scoring (17.5 points/game), rebounding (6.5/game), and free throw percentage (1.000).
In an 81-73 victory against the host, the junior guard totaled a season-high 19 points to go along with a team- and season-high seven rebounds as well as a game- and season-high four assists. Bayne went a perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line vs. the Vikings.
Against Alaska, he shot .700 (7-10) and pulled down a game-high six rebounds. The Tritons defeated the Nanooks by a score of 80-56.
For the week, Bayne totaled 35 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists while shooting .588 (10-17).
He was named to the all-tournament team for his performances.
UC San Diego (3-3) opens its CCAA season at home this Thursday, Nov. 30, with a game against Cal State San Bernardino (3-3). Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at RIMAC Arena and UCSD students are admitted free of charge.
