CARSON, Calif. - It came down to the final seconds of the game with the University of California San Diego men's basketball team falling just short in a 65-63 conference loss at Cal State Dominguez Hills Tuesday.

Trailing by three points, 63-60, with 16 seconds left in regulation, UC San Diego's Scott Everman came up huge by drilling a three-pointer from the top of the arc with a man on him to tie it up. With seven ticks on the clock, Jonathan Nichols hit a 15-foot jumper from the right side to put CSUDH back in front by a pair.

The Tritons made a valiant attempt to win it at the buzzer. George Buaku launched a shot from five feet inside the half-court line that was on point, but the ball swirled around the back of the rim and came out.

With the loss, UCSD dropped to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Dominguez Hills snapped a two-game slide to improve to 6-8 and 3-4.

Christian Oshita paced the Tritons, collecting a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds, both of those totals game-highs. The junior swingman was 9-for-16 shooting with a trifecta of three-pointers. He also chipped in with two assists and two steals.

Everman finished with 13 points, while Eric Patton had 12. Everman hit three three-pointers and Patton was 6-for-7 from the field. Anthony Ballestero dished out five assists.

As a team, UCSD shot 41.9 percent, which included a 51.9 percentage in the first half. The Tritons out-rebounded the Toros, 38-30.

For Cal State Dominguez Hills, Nichols and Mikey Hatfield each poured in 17 points. Nichols grabbed a team-best nine boards.

The Toros shot 48.1 percent overall and made 56.5 percent of their shots in the first half.

UCSD led for just under 34 of the game's 40 minutes. The Tritons held a 12-point advantage, their largest of the contest, when Everman hit a trey at the 10:58 mark of the second half.

A Malcolm Johnson layup with 1:35 left in the later stanza gave the Toros just their second lead of the half, 61-60.

Following a holiday break, UC San Diego returns to the floor to host CCAA opponent San Francisco State on Friday, Dec. 29 at 7:30 p.m. at RIMAC Arena.
