Christian Oshita Selected to NABC All-West District First Team
Release: Friday 03/16/2018
by UCSD

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Junior guard/forward Christian Oshita of the University of California San Diego picked up another postseason honor Friday as he was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-West District First Team.

Oshita, who started all 32 of the team's games, led UC San Diego in several statistical categories including scoring (16.3 points/game), rebounding (6.8/game), and minutes (33.3/game). He was second in field goal percentage (.457), 3-point field goals made (73), and 3-point field goal percentage (.395).

Oshita scored at least 10 points in 30 of 32 games. He netted 20-plus points on 10 occasions, including a career-high 29 against Stanislaus State in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship quarterfinal. That total was the most by any Triton this season. Oshita recorded five double-doubles on the year.

His 520 points scored and 383 field goals attempted over the 2017-18 campaign are the most by any Triton in a single season since the program moved to NCAA Division II status in 2000. Oshita now owns the second-best single season marks in scoring average (16.3) and field goals made (175) and is third in rebounds (219) and 3-pointers attempted (185).

Oshita has accumulated 880 career points in two seasons with the team.

The Los Angeles native was also named to the Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) All-West Region Second Team as well as the All-CCAA First Team. He was tabbed the CCAA Tournament MVP.

UC San Diego posted another banner year, finishing with a 21-11 overall record and a 15-7 mark in the CCAA, good for a third-place finish in the 13-team league. The Tritons won their second-straight (third overall) CCAA Championship title, defeating regular season champion and top-seeded Cal Poly Pomona in the title game. They advanced to their third-consecutive NCAA Championship, competing at the West Regional in Oregon.

About the National Association of Basketball Coaches
Located in Kansas City, Mo., the NABC was founded in 1927 by Forrest “Phog” Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men’s basketball coaches. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today’s student-athletes. The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education. Additional information about the NABC, its programs and membership, can be found at www.nabc.org.
