SAN DIEGO - Chris Hansen of the 18th-ranked University of California San Diego men's basketball team has been named a Star of the Month for December by the San Diego Sports Association. The organization made the announcement Tuesday.

A 6'7" center, Hansen averaged 14.7 points and 8.1 rebounds over seven games to lead UC San Diego to a 6-1 record and a No. 7 national ranking. He scored in double-digits in five games and recorded three double-doubles. The redshirt junior made 50.7 percent (34-67) of his shots overall and 44.1 percent (15-34) from behind the three-point arc. For the month, he led the Tritons in scoring, rebounding, free throw percentage (83.3), and blocks (7).

Hansen netted at least 20 points twice, including 27, two short of his career-high, at home against San Francisco State. In that game, he made 10 of 19 shots, which included six of nine from long range. Hansen grabbed 13 rebounds, also one shy of his career-best, against No. 20 Chaminade in Hawai'i. In addition, he established a new career-high with four assists vs. Western Oregon in Honolulu.

It is the second time Hansen has won the honor as he earned it in December of 2016.

The Tritons double-dipped this December as junior forward Mikayla Williams of the women's basketball team was also tabbed a Star of the Month.

UC San Diego (13-3, 8-1) plays just once this week, traveling to conference opponent Stanislaus State (5-7, 2-6) on Saturday, Jan. 12 (7:30 p.m.).

Each month, the San Diego Sports Association honors as many as four professional, six amateur and six high school athletes as Stars of the Month for their outstanding athletic accomplishments. Stars of the Month are recognized in the San Diego Union-Tribune, via the Fowler Family Awards Center at Petco Park, on the Sports Association's social media channels and website, and at San Diego's premier sports awards gala, Salute to the Champions, set for Jan. 31, 2019, at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla. They also receive a Breitbard Certificate of Athletic Achievement. Top-performing Stars of the Month can also earn Star of the Year accolades. Those considered are either from San Diego, or have achieved stardom for local teams.

Hansen and Williams make it 14 Tritons named as a Star of the Month for the 2018 calendar year:
