CCAA TOURNAMENT SNAPSHOT
No. 25 UC San Diego, the No. 1 seed in the CCAA Tournament, takes on No. 4-seed Chico State in the semifinals on Friday, March 2, beginning at 5:35 p.m. Both of Friday's semifinal games and Saturday's championship game will be held at Cal Poly Pomona's Kellogg Arena. UC San Diego has won the CCAA Tournament once in program history (2013) and fell to Cal State East Bay in the CCAA Championship game last season.

BIG (WEST) NEWS FOR UC SAN DIEGO ATHLETICS
On Nov. 27, UC San Diego was officially invited to become a member of the NCAA Division I Big West Conference. The Tritons will begin a four-year reclassification period starting in the fall of 2020. They will play a full Big West schedule that season and will be eligible for NCAA Championships in men's volleyball, men's and women's water polo, and fencing. For the 2024-25 academic year, all sports will be eligible to compete in Big West and NCAA Division I championships. Read the full press release here.

CCAA CHAMPS!
UC San Diego enters Friday's CCAA semifinal winners of 22 of its last 23 games, and is the tournament's No. 1 seed after winning the regular-season conference championship. UC San Diego is ranked 25th in the latest WBCA national poll, and landed at No. 5 in this week's NCAA West Regional ranking. 

LAST TIME OUT
The Tritons used smothering defense to earn a CCAA Tournament quarterfinal victory over No. 8-seed Sonoma State, 69-52, on Tuesday, Feb. 27. Sophomore forward Mikayla Williams scored a game-high 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds, while junior guard Kayla Sato added 17 points with four rebounds and four assists. UC San Diego held Sonoma State to 19 points in the first half, including just five points in the second quarter.

DALAYNA SAMPTON NAMED PLAYER OF THE YEAR; HEIDI VANDERVEER COACH OF THE YEAR
Senior forward Dalayna Sampton was named CCAA Player of the Year on Thursday, while head coach Heidi VanDerveer received CCAA Coach of the Year honors for the third-consecutive season. Sophomore forward Mikayla Williams joined Sampton on the All-CCAA First Team, junior guard Kayla Sato was named to the All-CCAA Second Team, while both senior guard Taylor Tanita and junior guard Joleen Yang each earned All-CCAA Honorable Mention.

MIKAYLA WILLIAMS EARNS CCAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK 
Sophomore forward Mikayla Williams was named California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week on Feb. 27 for the second time in her career and second time in the past three weeks. Williams also received the accolade on Feb. 13. The Meath Park, SK, Canada native averaged 23.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in two CCAA victories to close the regular season, shooting an incredible 18-of-22 (81.8 percent) from the field. Williams joins senior forward Dalayna Sampton as the only Tritons to earn the honor this season, with Sampton bringing home the award three times (Nov. 28, Dec. 19, Jan. 30).

OFF THE GLASS
The Tritons rank third in the nation in rebounding margin, dominating opponents on the glass this season 1170-871 (10.7 per game) ... UC San Diego has outrebounded its opponent in 22-consecutive games heading into the CCAA Tournament and 25 times total this season ... The Tritons rank 24th nationally in both defensive rebounds per contest (30) and total rebounds (1218) ... Senior forward Dalayna Sampton currently ranks tied for 13th in the nation in total rebounds (302), 20st in rebounds per game (10.4) and 25th in offensive rebounds per game (3.7).

DROPPING DIMES 
Senior guard Taylor Tanita currently ranks sixth nationally in total assists (176) and seventh in assists per game (6.1) ... Tanita, a Culver City native, also leads the Tritons in minutes played this season (901) ... As a team, UC San Diego is 21st in the country in total assists (477), 24th in assists per game (16.4) and 23rd in assist to turnover ratio (1.17).

UC San Diego junior guard Joleen Yang ranks third the nation in 3-point field-goal percentage (49.6) and leads the Tritons in 3-pointers made (65) and attempted (131) this season ... A native of San Francisco, Yang made 4-of-7 3-point attempts in Tuesday's quarterfinal victory over Sonoma State ... Sophomore Mikayla Williams ranks 25th in the nation in field-goal percentage (55.8), shooting an outstanding 35-of-45 (77.8) from the field in the last four games ... 2016-17 HIGHLIGHTS
UC San Diego highlighted its 2016-17 season by capturing a second successive CCAA regular-season crown. The Tritons finished runner-up in the CCAA Tournament after falling to Cal State East Bay, 62-53. UCSD earned a berth in the NCAA West Regional as the fourth seed, where it suffered a 69-65 loss to Simon Fraser in the quarterfinal. Head coach Heidi VanDerveer was named the CCAA Coach of the Year while junior transfer Dalayna Sampton earned CCAA Newcomer of the Year honors. UC San Diego had three players named All-CCAA in Cassie MacLeod, Beth Mounier and Sampton. Joleen Yang earned honorable mention.

HEAD COACH HEIDI VANDERVEER
Heidi VanDerveer is in her sixth campaign as the head coach of the UC San Diego women's basketball team with a 131-47 (.736) overall record. VanDerveer was named 2017-18 CCAA Coach of the Year for the third-straight season, as she and her staff led the Tritons to a 26-3 overall record (21-1 CCAA) and a third-consecutive CCAA regular-season title. Last season, the Tritons qualified the NCAA Division II postseason for the 10th time since 2000-01, competing in the quarterfinals against Simon Fraser. Prior to coming to La Jolla, VanDerveer spent four seasons at Division III Occidental, where she compiled an impressive 83-26 record and led the Tigers to four straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) titles. VanDerveer has also spent time as the head coach at Eastern Washington and San Francisco after beginning her coaching career under Pat Summitt at Tennessee, and spent 12 years working in the WNBA.
