SAN RAMON, Calif. - University of California San Diego All-American striker Katie O'Laughlin was named Tuesday morning as the first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women's Soccer Player of the Week of the 2017 season.

The Carlsbad native and graduate of Pacific Ridge School was in fact the first CCAA Player of the Week of 2016 as well, thanks to her first collegiate hat trick.

O'Laughlin began her senior campaign with a goal in each of two home victories over tough West Region foes for UC San Diego. She opened her 2017 account by capping the scoring in a 3-0 win over city rival Point Loma on Thursday night.

O'Laughlin then helped set up strike partner Mary Reilly's opener in the first half of Saturday's 2-1 triumph over 2016 NCAA Championship participant Central Washington. Her 58th-minute tally made it 2-0, and proved to be the decider. The goal was the 30th of her career, and 10th game-winner. O'Laughlin was credited with a team-high 11 shots taken for the weekend, four of them on frame.

It is a fourth career CCAA Player of the Week distinction for O'Laughlin, with a pair last year and an initial honor as a sophomore in 2015.

UC San Diego (2-0) is in action tonight, rounding out a three-game homestand against Concordia Irvine. Kickoff at Triton Soccer Stadium on North Campus in La Jolla is set for 7 p.m. Admission is free. The Eagles (0-1-1) were picked to place third in the Pacific West Conference preseason poll.

The Tritons' two wins moved them up from No. 10 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll, to No. 9 in Tuesday's first in-season installment.
