No. 2 Tritons Earn Inaugural Team Pinnacle Award from United Soccer Coaches

UC San Diego

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The No. 2 University of California San Diego women’s soccer team was one of only 19 men’s and women’s collegiate programs from across the nation to earn a Team Pinnacle Award from the United Soccer Coaches for its performance in 2018. The organization announced its recipients this afternoon.

This is the inaugural year for the Team Pinnacle Awards, which honors teams that excel in the areas of academics, sportsmanship, and athletics.

To be considered for the honor, collegiate teams must have received either the Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze version of the College Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award; achieved recognition in the classroom as a recipient of the College Team Academic Award; and recorded a winning percentage of .750 or higher during the respective season.

The Tritons excelled in all facets. Not receiving a red card and collecting only three yellow cards in 2018, UC San Diego was honored with the Silver Award for its sportsmanship. In the classroom, the Tritons compiled a 3.37 team GPA across the 2018-19 academic year. On the pitch, the Tritons achieved a 19-3-2 overall record for a .833 winning percentage.

The teams who earned a Team Pinnacle Award will be formally recognized by the United Soccer Coaches at the College Coaches Reception on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020 as part of the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
